Frequently Asked Questions :

1. I am going away on holiday, what should I do?

It depends on how long you are going away for.
2-3 weeks - use a double dose on departure and a double dose on return, togheter with 4 tablets of Pur'O Spa.
More than 3 weeks - empty your spa. In case of frost, please protect your spa according to the manufacturer's instructions for winter shut down. Use our recommended start up procedure on return.

2. My tap water pH is outside norms. What should I do?
<
AquaGarde formula adjust the pH automatically under normal circumstances and therefore does adjust most pH irregularties. However, if the pH is considerably higher or lower than the norm (under 7.2 and above 7.8) you may need to adjust it by adding some pH plus or pH minus solution. Please note, this should only be done once starting up with fresh water - AquaGarde will adjust the pH automatically once the pH is within the norms. Please measure the pH when the water is at the correct temperature.

3. My tap water is outside of calcium content norms. What should I do?

AquaGarde is designed to handle calcium levels between approximately 15 and 32 French Degrees or 150-320 ppm. Should your calcium level be below that, you may have to add a small quantity of calcium to the water. If it is considerably above, you may consider using a calcium and meneral filter upstream on your garden hose.

4. My filter is getting clogged and I have white bits floating around in the water. What should I do?

Great! Aquagarde is doing it's job. If you have a large amount of Bio-Film built up in the piping (please see description of Bio-Film (see: The Science; How does it work? How bacteria develop?) AquaGarde will loosen this film and it will end up in the water and eventually in the filter. The bits that you are seeing are most likely loosened Bio-Film. First of all, ensure your filters are clean at all times. You may possibly experience during the first few weeks when starting up with AquaGarde a 'Bio-Film clean up phase'. During this time, you may have to clean your filters more frequently (every other day). This is only a short period of time though and will clear up within 10 days to 2 weeks. You can help this Bio-Film eradication process along by using a pipe-scouring product every time you change the water in the spa.

5. There is foam in my spa. What should I do?

Foam is the water's natural method of getting rid of small particles of dirt. They assemble into larger particles that look like foam. The best way to get rid of foam is by physically removing it. Use a small bucket or a square plastic lid to lift it out of the tub and throw it away.

6. What other things do I need to keep my hot tub experience clean and safe?

AquaGarde® advocates responsible hot tub care

Check your filters regularly, and keep them clean. A filter is like a vacuum cleaner bag. When it is full or clogged it will not work as well.
Treat yourself to a cleaner hot tub by keeping the filters clean. Change your water regularly.
Every 2-4 months is advisable. Keep in mind that the higher the number of bathers, the dirtier the water gets.
Keep the hot tub clean. Remove any obvious debris, keep the edges clean.

AquaGarde® advocates responsible hot tub/spa bathing practices

When using the hot tub you should always shower before. Avoid using creams, lotions, soaps, shampoo and make-up before or during bathing.
Make sure any fragrance used in the hot tub is intended for the purpose (it should be non greasy)
Have a clean path to your hot tub to avoid getting grass or earth into the water. Or use slippers to walk to your hot tub.
Be selective as to whom you invite into your hot tub. The more people the more bacteria.
Do not urinate in the hot tub.
Do not use the hot tub if you are suffering from diarrhoea.
Do not wash swimsuits using detergent, fresh water rinse only to avoid foaming.
